Abstract:Letter from CCC to Governor Parnell asking for a decision on the pending reconsideration of the Lands Unsuitable Petition in light of ADF&G’s Best Interest Finding for the proposed Canyon Creek coal lease sale which recommends 100-foot setbacks on salmon streams, a recommendation which DNR has accepted, begging the question: if 100-foot setback for Canyon Creek, why not for Chuitna? Abstract: Letters from CCC to Alaska’s Congressional delegation thanking them for their support of the State of Alaska’s request for a disaster declaration due to king salmon run failure throughout the upper Cook Inlet region. The letters highlight the importance of protecting vibrant, healthy wild king salmon habitat, like the Chuitna River,  from irresponsible development that endangers economic and subsistence resources.

Letter from CCC to  Governor Parnell

Abstract: The CCC requested Governor Parnell direct DNR Commissioner Sullivan to reverse his rejection of the Unsuitable Lands Petition in light of recent expert testimony before the Senate Judiciary committee that concluded re-creation of a wild salmon stream after impacts proposed by PacRim coal is impossible. Parnell Administration Response to Citizen Letter and response from the Chuitna Citizens Coalition
December 2011

Abstract: The Parnell Administration responded to comments from hundreds of Alaskans asking for common sense protection for the Chuitna river with a form letter full of misstatements and half-truths regarding the State’s refusal to protect salmon from large scale coal strip mining.  Read the letter here.

Letter from the CCC to Sean Parnell, Governor of Alaska

Abstract: Letter from the Chuitna Citizens Coalition asking the Governor to explain why the State of Alaska is referring to a proposed, but un-permitted, coal strip mine project with a clear and obvious implication that the project has a predetermined outcome, and that production – regardless of public input, the rule of law or scientific data – will invariably commence.
